Hlin's Search Check: Success

The valve is in fairly good condition. It's neither dusty nor rusted. The valve is well lubricated and is probably easily turned. Part of the casing to the valve is bolted to the ground and on the northern section of the casing are large metal hinges. It appears the valve can be turned and perhaps a section of the casing is raised, like a door.

Nothing else appears to be amiss.

Jacob rubs his hands together and grabs the valve.
"Let's see what's below."

The valve turns with ease and after three revolutions, Jacob is able to pull the metal dome up with the valve. Jacob lifts up the metallic door revealing an open circular opening. Below is a worked spiral staircase the descends into the darkness. There is a musty odor mixed of stale air and decay.

Jacob's nose cringes at the smell.
"How can anyone live down there?"

"Hlin, I want you to take the lead. Martin and Pa'cheen will follow you. I'll be behind Pa'cheen and Fennigan will follow behind me with the light. Then, Lusula and Lowlyn will move in with Marilyn covering the flank."

Hlin leads the team down the narrow spiral staircase. It is a well worked stairway, except for recent scratch and gouges carved into the rocks. Hlin is the first to land at the bottom of the stair. According to her dwarven senses the stairway has brought the team down another 60 feet into the earth for a total current depth of 130 feet. The room Hlin steps into is long, but cramped with a ceiling just barely 10 feet tall.

Also, Hlin is not alone. Other than Martin, who is on the stairs just above her, there are two large skeletons in the room. The bones are thick and massive. The skulls are wide with large protruding jaws and tusks. The skulls almost look too large to be supported by the skeletal frame. The skeletons are easily identifiable as Ogre skeletons, probably troops from the giant forces that also ran afoul of Nerraune and his undead minions.

The Ogre skeletons (OS1 and OS2) turn their attention to Hlin, but do not move in anyway that is threatening. It's almost as if they are waiting for a response.

Hlin can also see 60 feet down the corridor that the Ogre skeletons are guarding. There is an intersection halfway down the passageway, but it is unknown how far the passage continues.
