Greyhawk: Against the Giants: Huecuva's Blight

The team arrives at Huecuva's Blight with plenty of daylight before sunset. However, the area looks very different. No new foes appear to be visible on the surface, but a band of magical darkness (given that the sun can't penetrate it) circles the hill containing the opening to the caves below.

Jacob looks at the darkness with intrepid intensity.
"Hlin, Marilyn, you will rake the lead with me. Lusula, Pa'cheen stay close to Fennigan and stay about 20 feet behind us. Martin, Lowlyn, bring up the rear flank with your bows ready. Martin, if need be, the two of you can hang back beyond the radius of Marilyn's spell. Use the lupinals' protection auras as needed."

Marilyn and Jacob move up to scout the area. Marilyn's bastard sword is out bathing the area in a brilliant white light.

Hlin says with a smile as she has her waraxe ready at her side. "I am coming. Time to bash heads and take names later."

Hlin moves to (76,17)

Jacob turns to Marilyn,
"What do you think about the darkness orbs?'

Marilyn nods,
"They are obviously hiding something. A trap or foe? My enchanted bastard sword should be able to clear the way, however."

Jacob nods.
"Very well, Hlin, let's keep moving forward."

The team moves forward in their small groups. Lowlyn stays outside of Marilyn's spell, so he can stay close to Martin, his fellow archer.

Martin moves to the partial cover at (74, 10)

Lieutenant Jacob moves with Marilyn and Himo closer to the cave entrance that has been encircled with darkness globes. The lieutenant leads the team to the southeast, coming at the the enchanted darkness from a difficult direction. Lusula, Pa'cheen, and Fennigan follow behind with Lowlyn and Martin as the rear guard. Jacob's squad gets close enough to the wall of darkness that Marilyn's aura dispels it. 

The light reveals the dead thicket with two large pits, depths unknown. Seven lumbering humanoids are also stationed within the thicket, standing around the pits. The humanoids have bluish skin, although dulled.

Jacob looks to Marilyn and Hlin.
"I think Nerraune reanimated the humanoids we fought yesterday."

Marilyn grips her sword hilt tightly.
"Well, they should be easier to deal with if they are only zombies."

Jacob nods.
"We will move slowly, Hlin and I will take point."

Martin and Lowlyn receive a telepathic from Lusula.
Lieutenant Jacob reports that he believes the humanoids we killed yesterday have been reanimated. They are going to move in to gauge the reaction. Keep your eyes about you.

Hlin says "About time for we see some action."

As Hlin readies herself for a battle with a simle waiting with the Lieutenant Jacob to move in.

The zombies start to move forward in an unseemly caricature of living movement toward Jacob and Hlin.

Lowlyn takes cover right next to Martin and also takes a look around.
"I don't see anything else, but this seems too easy, Lieutenant Martin."

Hlin: Dwarven waraxe+1 is considered as an Everbright weapon (2/day create a blinding effect within 20ft radius for 1 round, Fort DC 14; also such a weapon is immune to acid and rust attacks). Hlin also has a crystal that can be attached to her weapon, Crystal of least Truedeath, when added to her weapon he does an extra 1d6 points of damage to undead.

Martin: Ghost touch Longsword +1 is also changed as above with Hlin's weapon, considered as an Everbright weapon (2/day create a blinding effect within 20ft radius for 1 round, Fort DC 14; also such a weapon is immune to acid and rust attacks). Martin also has a Crystal of least Truedeath also has a crystal that can be attached to her weapon, Crystal of least Truedeath, when added to her weapon he does an extra 1d6 points of damage to undead.

Himo: Himo's armor is considered Blueshine (armor is immune to acid and rust attacks and grants a +2 to Hide checks when worn). Himo also has a Clasp of Fire Protection (Grants wearer fire resistance 10, but only absorbs a total of 50 points of fire damage/day). A clasp functions exactly like a crystal with the same hindrance that only one crystal or clasp can be used at any time.

Arlie: Arlie's ring that was given to him last year is Protection +2, but is now also a Ring of Darkhidden (wearer is invisible to darkvision, but can still be seen in normal light or low-light vision).

Round One: Fennigan

Fennigan, expecting a larger fight casts a spell on himself and a shimmering purple globe covers the wizard. The globe fades from view only seconds later. 

He moves closer to the frontline, using the dead trees for cover.

Round One: Marilyn

Marilyn marches forward, confident in her abilities and the power of the celestial aura pouring from her blade. As her aura passes over the blue-skinned zombies, they burn in blue flame. Also, a target (SC1) under cover at the top of the hill, unseen before, also burns in holy blue flame. 

Her aura also negates two more globes of darkness revealing another pit, plus part of another put as the aura pushes on the globes to the west of the hill.

Round One: Jacob

Jacob moves forward purposefully. He eyes the opponent on the hill and shouts,
"If you get the chance, strike that foe with a missile volley!"

Jacob moves into the thicket to stand between the zombies and Marilyn.

SC1 disappears in a flash of white light.

All of the blue zombies begin a lumbering approach toward Jacob. They move very slowly through the thicket.

Martin strikes true, but the arrow barely penetrates the undead's hard skin. It does not cause the damage Martin was hoping for.

Round 2: Lowlyn

Lowlyn rushes to a position in front of Martin. Lowlyn fires a shot from his bow at the Z7 as well. His arrow also strikes too, but fails to penetrate deeply.

Lowlyn curses in ELVEN and then turns to Martin.
"I fear arrows will be less than effective."
